1. Intimate home weddings
If you’re planning a small wedding with just close family and friends, why not have it at home? You could plan it in your backyard, terrace or even in your house. Home weddings are becoming increasingly popular and in our opinion not a bad idea at all. You can still have everything you planned like your first dance, favourite food, and decor right at home. This is a great option for those who want to keep it small due to lockdown restrictions or if you’re having a small civil wedding.
2. Sit down dinners
A sit down dinner with a few courses makes more sense for a small crowd and saves up more money than a buffet setting. Although it’s not so common, it is a trend that’s surely picking up. It’s a great way to have a meal with your close family and friends around a table to celebrate your wedding.
3. Mix and match bridesmaid dresses
This is a trend we are all for! Mix and match your bridesmaids’ dresses in terms of patterns, silhouettes or even shades. Pick a colour palette and mix and match. You could even have all the bridesmaids in the same dress in different shades or the other way around. Check out these ideas for some bridesmaid dress inspiration.
4. Digital invitations/ E-vites
We’re all about saving the environment and avoiding paper waste. So why not save the trouble of printing extravagant multiple page wedding invites and go digital! This way you can easily invite everyone super quickly and also update them with ease in case of a last minute change of plan.
5. Shorter speeches
Goodbye long boring speeches. Pick someone who is close to you and your SO (significant other), who will raise the toast at the wedding but make sure they keep it interesting, funny and most importantly short. Avoid having too many people coming up to raise the toast as it gets long and boring for the guests. You also have to keep in mind time restrictions, so shorter speeches means more time to celebrate and party.
6. Weekday weddings
It’s 2021, things are different now. With most people working from home, flexible work timings, zoom weddings, you can easily plan a weekday wedding. You’ll definitely save on cost as venues do offer subsidized rates on weekdays. So if you have a special date that doesn’t fall on a weekend, no problems plan it on a Thursday instead.
7. Sun-downer weddings
A sundowner is typically a party planned early evening during sunset. So if you have an outdoor venue or a terrace setting a sundowner is perfect. Watching the sunset as you take your vows is the perfect backdrop. Say hello to some stunning wedding photographs. We absolutely love a sundowner wedding and here’s the best part, if you tell your guests it’s a sundowner they’ll definitely show up on time. It also is very practical if your area has a night curfew during the lockdown.
8. Single tier cakes
2021 is all about change. We’re saying goodbye to tall cakes with multiple tiers. Single tier and shorter cakes make more sense especially since there are fewer crowds at weddings and you don’t want to be stuck with so much of cake.
9. Wedding tents and twinkle lights
This works perfect for an outdoor venue. These outdoor tents are perfect for a summer day wedding or even if there is a slight chance of rain. If tents are not for you fairy lights are super trendy right now. They have a dual purpose; decor and lighting! Can’t miss a two for one deal like this. They also add a magical touch to your evening. The tents and lights made it to our wedding trends for 2021 and is here to stay!
10. Nano-moon
If you can’t plan a romantic honeymoon due to travel restrictions, plan a nano-moon! Yes it’s a mini honeymoon somewhere local and for a shorter duration. It can still be romantic, do your research well in advance and find the perfect spot for your nano-moon just a short drive away. You can always plan to do a bigger trip together in the future once places open up again for tourism.
