Wedding Cakes: Fondant v/s Butter cream
What’s your favorite Icing on the Cake?
Fondant V/s Butter cream is exactly like comparing classic and contemporary styles. Just like comparing the seasoned middle aged man with the new kid in the block. So let’s see who wins this round?
Fondant Wedding Cake
When we think of Fondant we think of that divinely rich fruit cake filled with a bunch of rum with that soft layer of marzipan on the top which is divine. This is usually served while the guests are entering the reception along with that delicious port wine. It’s hard to recall if we actually get served the wedding cake at a wedding at all. You always see those many tiers of fondant just sitting pretty at the center of the venue and later rolled to the corner. Fondant unlike butter cream can last a really long time especially in hot and humid weather conditions and can do well for an outdoor or indoor event.
Have you heard of the tradition of saving the wedding cake in the freezer? Well as the tradition goes the piece of the wedding cake is stacked away in the freezer for your first wedding anniversary or the christening of your child in the first year of marriage (whichever comes first). Although this tradition can only be fulfilled with a fondant cake!
Butter cream Wedding Cake
On the hand Butter cream is lighter and tastes a whole lot better. Who doesn’t like the combination of butter and sugar that comes in so many different flavors. Chocolate, Coffee, Vanilla, Lemon, Cream cheese to name a few basic ones but you can really go crazy with flavor combinations, and your options here are endless. We think this style of wedding cake is the more modern and contemporary take on the classic. Climate wise however you may want to reconsider, if you want to use butter cream for an outdoor event as it needs to be well refrigerated.
