Tips to save money on a wedding

Let’s face it, weddings are expensive but they are supposed to be the best day of your life and a celebration of love. Weddings also only come once, so it’s okay to splurge a little. For those of you planning your own wedding, here are some tips to save money in the process.

Flowers

Cake

Choose butter cream over fondant and opt for a smaller cake with a single tier. Practically speaking the tiers of pretty fondant wedding cake almost never get served at the wedding.

Photography

Save on wedding photography and don’t opt for the extras like printed albums and coffee table books etc. Let’s be honest our wedding photos are best showcased on social media, so make sure you get a photographer who captures all the special moments without overcharging you.

Food

Try a plated dinner service instead of a buffet, if you know your number of guests. But if you really want to go ahead with a buffet, then always try and get an estimate of guests attending through RSVP, so that you give your caterer a correct number of plates to charge you for. Another tip is to give them a figure lower than your estimate as not everybody ends up eating. We all know there’s always a crowd at the bar that will leave without eating dinner, if not the guests who show up to make an appearance and leave early or the guests that ditch and don’t show up at all.

Transport

Make sure your ceremony is not too far from your venue. This is a great way to ensure to save on transportation costs for the guests. Best option is to look for a venue that can host the ceremony and reception in the same place.

Dress

As for your wedding dress, keep a look out for sales on social media well in advance so you can select a readymade gown at an affordable price rather than an expensive custom-tailored dress that will leave you stressed till the last moment.

Hair & Makeup

This is an important one. Ladies your hair and makeup can’t go wrong on your big day, so do your research and find someone that fits your budget. Ask them for a hair and makeup trial in advance, so you are stress free on the main day. You can also ask your entourage to have their hair and makeup ready when they show up, so that you don’t waste time and money.

Rentals

Instead of splurging on everything, consider certain things that you can rent. It could be anything from outfits to jewelry, décor, lighting, car rentals etc.
